How is a suburban event compatible with the current Corona situation?

In view of developments around vaccinations, tests and containment measures, and taking into account our #B-SAFE4business security concept, we currently assume that we will be able to hold a gamescom in Cologne at our fair grounds in August.

In order to make the trade fair experience during the Corona pandemic as safe and successful as possible, Koelnmesse has developed a host of measures in accordance with the provisions of the corona protection ordinance of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and in close coordination with the authorities in Cologne. These measures work together seamlessly and regulate the interaction at the fair grounds.

These measures entail among others hygiene and distancing rules, regulations on stand construction as well as solutions that ensure a safe everyday trade fair routine such as digital management at the stands for instance.

Nevertheless, we will continue to analyse and re-evaluate the situation over the coming months. Should pandemic-related developments make it impossible to stage an on-site event, gamescom will be held as a purely digital format again.

How secure can an on-site gamescom in Cologne be this year?

In order to make the trade fair experience as safe and as successful as possible in corona times, Koelnmesse has developed a series of measures in accordance with the requirements of the Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and in close coordination with the authorities in Cologne, which are seamlessly interlinked and regulate interaction on the trade fair grounds. These measures cover, among other things, hygiene and distance rules, regulations on stand construction, and solutions that ensure safe day-to-day trade show operations, such as a digital queue management system at the exhibition stands.

What can I expect on site in Cologne?

At gamescom on site this year, we're putting a clear focus on the best possible experience for gaming superfans. That's everything in the entertainment area will revolve around trying out new game titles. We are also planning an event arena, where special programming such as e-sports tournaments or cosplay shows will be held. Details about further areas and this year's supporting program will be communicated over the coming months via our social channels, newsletter and gamescom.global.

Will I be able to meet up with all my friends again on site?

We have a clear focus on making it safe for you to try out new game titles. We are not currently planning on larger community gatherings and crowds. However, taking into account the safety, hygiene and distance rules that will apply in August, we still want to make it possible for you to experience the community feeling you are used to at gamescom this year as well.

How many people will you let into the fairgrounds?

Taking into account the safety, hygiene and distance rules that will apply in August, we still want to make it possible to try out new game titles for as many fans as possible. If the general conditions remain the same, we cannot exclude, that the number of tickets available for gamescom 2021 will be reduced.
